The Running Gear Worth the Investment

Hi Reader!
After a few busy weekends in a row, it finally caught up to me. I thought it was just allergies because the cherry blossoms in Chicago have been so pretty lately, but after my Saturday long run, it caught up to me. I spent the entire weekend under the weather and in bed and honestly, I probably needed the rest.
I even skipped a 5K I had planned for Sunday, which says a lot if you know me.
But honestly, I think my body just needed the reset. And now that I’m feeling better, I’m leaning into the fact that… it’s gonna be May, which somehow feels like a fresh start. New energy, new routines, and maybe a little reminder that rest is part of the plan too.
The time in best was worth it, which leads me to this week's post: Running Gear Worth the Investment

If you’ve ever debated whether certain running gear is “worth it,” this one’s for you.
This post isn’t just about spending more, it’s about choosing pieces that actually make your life easier and pull double duty outside of running too. Think concerts, travel days, and long summer outings.
Inside the post, you’ll learn: • What running gear is actually worth investing in (and what’s not) • How to get more use out of your gear beyond your long runs
A few things I keep reaching for when I travel for races or quick trips:
SPIbelt:This running belt is perfect for holding your phone, keys, and fuel on the run. Also amazing for concerts or travel days when you want to stay hands-free.
Megababe Bust Dust + Powder Puff: A summer essential. This powder helps absorb moisture and keep you comfortable on hot runs or long days outside. Apply it with a big powder puff.
Happy Curves Anti-Chafe Balm: One of the best investments you can make in your run! It's so important, I use it on every run. Check it out here.
Nathan Running Vest: So comfortable, tons of pockets, and great for long runs or races where you want everything easily accessible (NYRR approved!). Order here on Amazon.
Baleaf Running Shorts: Affordable, comfortable, and pockets that actually fit your phone. A win across the board. Order here on Amazon.
These are the little things that make travel feel smoother and less stressful, especially when you are balancing race logistics too!
With summer marathon training right around the corner (hello Chicago Marathon training starts in June), this is your reminder that long runs are about to become a big part of your routine.
If you’re newer to marathon training or just want a refresher, this post walks through exactly how to prepare so your long runs feel manageable, not overwhelming.
If you're running a marathon for a charity and need fresh ideas, this section is for you! Steal these ideas or send them to a friend who is fundraising for a marathon.
Here are a few ideas you use the week of May 4th:
Mental Health Month: All Month Long: “Miles for Your Mind”: May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and running plays such a big role in that for so many of us. Share a post about what running means to your mental health. Invite people to donate in support of your journey and your cause.
Star Wars Day: “May the Course Be With You” (May 4th): A fun, low-effort themed fundraiser that people love to engage with. “May the Course Be With You” or celebrate the Dark Side with Revenge of the Sixth on May 6th.
Mother’s Day: Run for Her (May 10): This one always resonates and feels meaningful. Share a photo or story about a mom or mother figure who has impacted your life.

Issue #53 Miles, Maps & Styles Hi Reader! Hope you had a chance to soak up some of the long weekend! Brian and I spent part of it out on Lake Michigan with my best friend, Dyan, for a sail. While it was chilly, we enjoyed the peaceful vibes and great company. While it was too cold to swim now, we can’t wait to jump in later in the season. The rain on Sunday kind of had other plans for us the rest of the weekend, but we got our summer kicked off officially now that our flowers are planted. We...
