Destination: Road Trip for Your Next Race

Issue #53

Miles, Maps & Styles

Hi Reader!

Hope you had a chance to soak up some of the long weekend! Brian and I spent part of it out on Lake Michigan with my best friend, Dyan, for a sail. While it was chilly, we enjoyed the peaceful vibes and great company. While it was too cold to swim now, we can’t wait to jump in later in the season.

The rain on Sunday kind of had other plans for us the rest of the weekend, but we got our summer kicked off officially now that our flowers are planted. We found one of our planters tipped over in the first 24 hours and we thought it might have been a racoon... turns out the racoon might actually be our dog, Squid.

The flowers are gorgeous and it just took a little extra coordinating a trip to the garden center without a car is a whole adventure in itself! I sold my car back in February, so even a simple errand now takes a little extra planning.

Which, funny enough, ties into the theme of this week's newsletter. This week I'm sharing some of my best tips for road tripping to a race, plus a throwback post on packing for a destination marathon that I think you'll love.

Also, you still have time to sign up for the 30-day run streak (more info here) before we kick off on June 1st!

Let's dig in.

Road Trip Tips to Drive to a Race

If you've ever considered driving to a race instead of flying, this one's for you. Road trips can be a fantastic option for races within about 4 to 6 hours from home, and honestly, they come with some real perks (no baggage fees and you can bring ALL the recovery tools). But there are a few things worth thinking through before you hit the road.

Get all the details in this post:

Tips to Travel to a Destination Race

Whether you're road tripping or flying to your next race, packing smart is half the battle. This older post is one of my favorites because it walks you through how to stay organized and stress-free from the moment you zip up your suitcase to the moment you cross the finish line.

A few highlights:

  • Packing cubes are a game changer: Keep your race kit separate from your everyday clothes so you're race ready once you arrive.
  • Always carry on your race essentials: Your shoes, race nutrition and kit should never go in checked luggage.
  • Don't forget the little things: A portable battery pack, neck pillow, and travel adapter can make a big difference, especially on long travel days.

This one pairs perfectly with the road trip tips above.

Prime Picks of the Week

Here are a few products to help you travel comfortably!

  • Trtl Travel Pillow: I know, I know, everyone has a travel pillow recommendation. But this one actually changed how I sleep on flights. It wraps around your neck like a scarf and gives real support without that bulky donut look. Absolute must-have for any flight over two hours. Shop the Trtl neck pillow here.
  • The Bevledge: This little genius slides into your plane window and creates a shelf for two drinks. No more juggling your cups, tablet and your snacks while trying not to elbow your neighbor. Shop the Bevledge here.
  • The Original Stick: A compact foam roller alternative that actually fits in your suitcase. Perfect for working out tight calves and hamstrings after a long drive or a day of walking the expo. I love you can use it standing, so you don't have to get on your hotel carpet. Shop The Original Stick here.
