How to Support a Charity Runner (The Top Ways Aren't Donating)

Issue #65
Miles, Maps & Styles
Hello Reader!
I started Run. Wander. Wear. originally as a place to share tips for balancing marathon training as a busy human with a full life. I also love how traveling for races has opened the world for me (visiting Berlin to run the marathon was the first time I visited Europe).
In 2024, I wrote one marathon fundraising tip post that blew up and while I love writing about running and traveling, supporting charity runners has been an incredible part of my journey.
It made me realize while there are a lot of marathon fundraising tips and fundraiser ideas, there isn't a lot out there to support friends of charity runners.
It's not always about giving money to show support. There are so many ways to help, so let's dig in.

Tips to Automate Your Life
Marathon training can feel like a part-time job on top of your life commitments. When you’re focused on your training, learning how to automate your life can be a game-changer.
Let’s walk through the smart, simple ways to free up time and mental space during training to get you to the starting line ready to go. These time-saving tips for marathon training are about preserving your energy for the miles ahead.
Gifts for runners are a nice way to go further, especially when they match where she actually is in training rather than a generic running theme. Here's what tends to land well at each stage.
A Coffee Gift Card: Get a small gift card to buy your friend a cup of coffee for her hard work. If you want to make it even more special, include a coffee mug (I am loving this mug option with a single letter on it).
Running Store Gift Card: Getting her a gift that can help with her training is a life saver! Give her a gift card from her favorite running store so she can shop for much-needed items like a foam roller or a mini massage gun is a huge help!
Race Day
Race Day Favorites: Gift her with her favorite electrolytes (LMNT is mine) or an anti-chafe balm (like Megababe).
Post Race
The Scent of Victory: Another cute Smells Like candle, this candle is perfect for a congratulations after the race.
Recovery Slides: Take care of her feet with these recovery slides. After a marathon, the first thing I want to do is take off my running shoes and I love the cushiony foam of Oofos sandals.
A Framed Photo: Consider printing a photo from the race and having it framed! This gift is super sentimental and doesn't have to cost a lot.
These are just a few ideas to get you started! if you need more ideas for runner gifts, check out the runner gift guide!
