How to Get a Guaranteed Entry to Boston!

Issue #50
Miles, Maps & Styles
Hi Reader!
This week felt like one of those little reminders of why I love the running community so much. I went to see The Devil Wears Prada 2 with a group of women I met through running, and I just kept thinking… how lucky am I? These friendships started with miles and somehow turned into something so much deeper.
I think about how scared I was to run my second marathon, but I went for it and made some incredible friendships. In one summer, I went from thinking, "I just want to run one more marathon," to "If I don't run a marathon next summer, I won't see my friends as much." The running community is why I've trained for 12 marathons and the reason I dream of running Boston someday.
Which brings me to this week’s topic, How to Run the Boston Marathon for Charity.
In the words of Miranda Priestly, "Pull yourself together. We have work to do."
Now let's dig in.

If running the Boston Marathon has ever crossed your mind but the idea of qualifying feels out of reach, this is for you. Right now is actually the perfect time to start thinking about if you’d like to run Boston, especially if it’s on your 2027 race bucket list.
Here’s what you need to know:
You do not need a qualifying time if you run with an official charity.
Applications for the charity teams typically open in late summer for the following April.
Planning ahead is key since you’re responsible for any fundraising shortfall
I also break down how to stand out in the application and interview process so you can go in with confidence and a strategy.
Here are a few things I keep reaching for when I travel for races or quick trips:
Dr. Scholl’s Walking Shoes: Comfortable enough for all-day exploring but still cute with your travel outfits. A true win-win for busy travel days. Order here on Amazon.
Passport Holder with Bluetooth Tracker: If you’ve ever panicked at the airport if your passport just disappeared in this air, you already know why this is helpful. Keeping track of your passport is one less thing to stress about. It connects to the Find My app (for iPhone users). Order here on Amazon.
A Clear Stadium Purse: Think: cute purse, transparent for venues. Perfect for concerts, sporting events or festivals. I love the gorgeous strap on mine. Order here on Amazon.
These are the little things that make travel feel smoother and less stressful, especially when you are balancing race logistics too!
If you're running a marathon for a charity and need fresh ideas, this section is for you! Steal these ideas or send them to a friend who is fundraising for a marathon.
Here are a few ideas you use the week of May 11th:
Host a Garden Party Fundraiser: Spring is the perfect excuse to get outside. Host a casual garden or patio party and invite friends to “buy a ticket” as a donation. Add a signature cocktail and a mocktail option, plus simple finger foods. Want to take it up a notch? Ask local businesses to donate items for a raffle or mini silent auction.
National Mimosa Day (May 16): Turn your post-run hang into a fundraiser. Invite friends to “Toast to Strong Miles” and donate the price of a mimosa to your cause.
Physical Fitness & Sports Month: Use the whole month as an opportunity to highlight movement and community. Share why running matters to you or spotlight youth programs you care about.

Issue #53 Miles, Maps & Styles Hi Reader! Hope you had a chance to soak up some of the long weekend! Brian and I spent part of it out on Lake Michigan with my best friend, Dyan, for a sail. While it was chilly, we enjoyed the peaceful vibes and great company. While it was too cold to swim now, we can’t wait to jump in later in the season. The rain on Sunday kind of had other plans for us the rest of the weekend, but we got our summer kicked off officially now that our flowers are planted. We...
