Hi Reader,
Here is another week of fundraising tips and for some of you, it's race week!
If you're running the Berlin Marathon this week, I just wanted to give you a shout out to have an incredible race! I ran this course in 2024 and with absolutely no expectations, I broke a PR I held for 7 YEARS. It is such an incredible city and I hope you enjoy it!
I'm headed to Berlin this week to cheer for my friends, Dyan, Jen and Tyrand, and I'm looking forward to going to Oktoberfest after!
Let's get into this week's tips!

Fundraising Tips for Non-Salespeople
I signed up for my first marathon in 2014 with a charity team, and I remember the moment I hit submit on my application. I was thrilled, excited, and also a little scared. I also knew that loving a cause and knowing how to ask people to donate turned out to be two completely different skills.
This post covers:
- How I started my fundraiser and what I'd do differently
- How to reframe the donation ask
- Fundraising ideas if you hate selling

Hook of the Week
What's a hook?
A hook is the opening moment of a video or caption designed to stop the scroll on social and make someone want to keep watching. This is your one-second pitch for the viewer to continue watching. It can be text on screen, a visual, or both and it makes all the difference between someone watching or swiping past.
This week's hook:
Not to be dramatic but when you donate to my [marathon] fundraiser, you're not only helping support [your charity] and [their mission], you're also supporting my dream to run [your marathon].
Example: Not to be dramatic but when you donate to my Chicago Marathon fundraiser, you're not only helping support Imerman Angels and their mission to ensure no one fights cancer alone, you're also supporting my dream to run the Chicago Marathon in 2026.
For your caption: Remind the reader about the cool things you're experiencing as a charity runner, what your charity is about, or the impact of where the donations go. Include how simple it is to donate to your charity, whether it’s your link in bio, sending you a Venmo for you to donate on their behalf, or other fundraising events you have coming up.

Fundraising Tips for Next Week
I want to make sure you have enough time to plan out ideas for these fundraising posts. These ideas are meant to give you organic reasons to share your fundraiser!
Here are a few ideas you plan for the week of September 28th:
- National Good Neighbor Day (September 28): Ask your friends to be a good neighbor and donate to your cause.
- National Coffee Day (September 29): Everyone has a favorite coffee order, and it’s an easy way to make micro-donations. Simply ask your friends to skip their coffee order and donate the cost of their coffee beverage to your fundraising campaign.
- National Boyfriend Day (October 3): National Boyfriend Day is a fun excuse to show love and appreciation for the boyfriend in your life, especially the ones who support your marathon training cycles, early race mornings, and post-run celebrations. Personally, I adore my boyfriend, Brian, and I am so grateful for all his support.
Ocober is right around the corner! Get started planning your October ideas and read below for ideas for the whole year:
