Effectively Use Email as a Resource

Email remains one of the most effective ways to connect with potential donors. People are more likely to contribute when they receive a personal and heartfelt message. This is a great way to raise awareness for your charity's mission. You can write a personal email or you can send a group email (just bcc your recipients). I usually try to do this a few times throughout the season with updates on my training or milestones I've achieved.

It's nice, personal and really sweet.

What to Include in Your Email:

  • An Introduction: Start by sharing that you’re running a marathon for charity and why this cause matters to you.
  • Your Goal: Be clear about your fundraising target and how raising money will make an impact. Include details on where their donation will have the biggest impact.
  • A Call to Action: Include a link to your donation page and ask for their support. Make it easy for them to donate with clear instructions. If you are documenting the process on social media, include links to your social media handles and ask them to follow your progress. I also include notes on whether they'd prefer to send a check and where to mail it.

Hook of the Week

What's a hook?

A hook is the opening moment of a video or caption designed to stop the scroll on social and make someone want to keep watching. This is your one-second pitch for the viewer to continue watching. It can be text on screen, a visual, or both and it makes all the difference between someone watching or swiping past.

This week's hook:

Science is so fake because they say the sun is the hottest thing but it's obviously running a marathon for charity.

How to film it (keep it to 7 seconds!):

  1. Open with the text hook on screen over b-roll video. B-roll is observation "fly on the wall" video. Examples would be a clip of you on a morning run clip, running in a race, or you in your cross-training routine
  2. Keep the visual moving; no static shots
  3. Add the text hook to the top of the screen (like a headline) at the start of the video
  4. Layer trending audio underneath (check your Reels or TikTok audio tab for what's climbing this week) or a song that fits the clip
  5. Let the hook do the heavy lifting! You don't need to say a word on camera
  6. In the last 3-4 seconds, add text that says Details for How to Donate Below!

For your caption: Share why this race matters to you and why this charity is close to your heart. Keep it personal and specific. You just need to offer a personal touch as to why this is important to you and include specific details how they can find your donation link.

If you try this reel, let me know! I'd love to know how it goes (tag @runwanderwear and I'll reshare it)

Fundraising Tips for Next Week

I want to make sure you have enough time to plan out ideas for these fundraising posts.

Here are a few ideas you plan for the week of June 29th:

  • First Weekend in July: NYC Marathon Training Kick-off: If you're training for the New York City Marathon, boost your donations by announcing the beginning of the training season with a social post or email to celebrate the occasion
  • World UFO Day (July 2): Tell your donors they’re “Out of This World” when they support your cause. Have fun with a space theme for your social media posts and consider creating a fun, otherworldly fundraising goal.
  • Independence Day (July 4): America is turning 250! Set a goal to raise $250 in one day!

Here's ideas to start planning your July-themed fundraising ideas and read below for ideas for a whole year:
