Story Time!
When it comes to marathon fundraising, it's all about making it as simple as possible. If you want a really easy way for friends to donate, add your fundraising posts to your Instagram story. You don't need to have 10,000 followers to add a link to your story anymore. Include a picture of you on a training run, share an update, and ask for a donation. Super simple.
Hook of the Week
What's a hook?
A hook is the opening moment of a video or caption designed to stop the scroll on social and make someone want to keep watching. This is your one-second pitch for the viewer to continue watching. It can be text on screen, a visual, or both and it makes all the difference between someone watching or swiping past.
This week's hook:
You won’t believe how simple it is to donate to [your charity]!
For your caption: Tell the reader the caption with how simple it is to donate to your charity, whether it’s your link in bio, sending you a Venmo for you to donate on their behalf, or other fundraising events you have coming up.
How to film it (keep it to 7 seconds!):
- Open with the text hook on screen over b-roll video. B-roll is observation "fly on the wall" video.
- Keep the visual moving; no static shots
- Add the text hook to the top of the screen (like a headline) at the start of the video
- Layer trending audio underneath (check your Reels or TikTok audio tab for what's climbing this week) or a song that fits the clip
- Let the hook do the heavy lifting! You don't need to say a word on camera
- In the last 3-4 seconds, add text that says Details for How to Donate Below!

Fundraising Tips for Next Week
I want to make sure you have enough time to plan out ideas for these fundraising posts.
Here are a few ideas you plan for the week of July 27th:
- Lollapalooza Weekend (July 30 - August 2): Host a "fundraiser-palozza" weekend! Turn the last weekend of July into “Fundraiser-palooza” with a high-energy fundraising goal. Set a target and share live updates throughout the weekend to keep supporters engaged.
- International Cheesecake Day (July 30): Celebrate your “golden girls” by asking them to donate the cost of a slice of cheesecake. Share a nostalgic photo of you and your close friends for a personal touch.
- Avocado Day (July 31): Invite supporters to “avoca-donate” to your marathon fundraiser. Share your favorite avocado or guacamole recipe and ask friends to share theirs in the comments after they donate.
- National Girlfriends Day (August 1): National Girlfriends Day is a great way to celebrate the female friendships in your life! Celebrate your past race experiences with a highlight reel of pictures or videos from a girls’ race weekend or a training run that meant a lot.
