Host a Yard Sale

A yard sale might not sound groundbreaking as a fundraiser, but it becomes one of the most effective individual fundraising ideas when you turn it into a fundraising event instead of just a decluttering day.

The goal is to donate the proceeds to your fundraising page and you can add additional donations by including a QR code for shoppers to add to your total. Even if they don't find something at your yard sale, they can always contribute to a great cause! You can also offer to sell lemonade for additional charity funds. As the kids in my neighborhood say, "We take Venmo!" and it's a convincing sell.

Hook of the Week

What's a hook?

A hook is the opening moment of a video or caption designed to stop the scroll on social and make someone want to keep watching. This is your one-second pitch for the viewer to continue watching. It can be text on screen, a visual, or both and it makes all the difference between someone watching or swiping past.

This week's hook:

I used to worry about getting into [your charity marathon] and then I realized I could run my dream race and run to help support [your charity’s mission] at the same time

For your caption: Tell the reader the caption should ways they can donate to your charity, whether it’s your link in bio, sending you a Venmo for you to donate on their behalf, or other fundraising events you have coming up.

How to film it (keep it to 7 seconds!):

  1. Open with the text hook on screen over b-roll video. B-roll is observation "fly on the wall" video. Examples would be a clip of you on a morning run clip, running in a race, or you in your cross-training routine
  2. Keep the visual moving; no static shots
  3. Add the text hook to the top of the screen (like a headline) at the start of the video
  4. Layer trending audio underneath (check your Reels or TikTok audio tab for what's climbing this week) or a song that fits the clip
  5. Let the hook do the heavy lifting! You don't need to say a word on camera
  6. In the last 3-4 seconds, add text that says Details for How to Donate Below!
If you try this reel, let me know! I'd love to know how it goes (tag @runwanderwear and I'll reshare it)

Fundraising Tips for Next Week

I want to make sure you have enough time to plan out ideas for these fundraising posts.

Here are a few ideas you plan for the week of July 6th:

  • Tape Measure Day (July 14): : Illustrate your fundraising progress with a tape measure challenge. Set a one-day goal where each inch of the tape measure is worth a donation amount (for example, $10 per inch). Share updates as you “measure” your success.
  • National Hot Dog Day (July 15): Turn America’s favorite ballpark food into a fundraising moment. Host a backyard cookout, in person or virtually, and ask friends and family to “buy a hot dog” for a set donation amount. Feeling competitive? Challenge a friend to a hot dog eating contest and ask people to donate to “vote” for their favorite eater. You could also plan a hot dog run to celebrate!

Here's ideas to start planning your July-themed fundraising ideas and read below for ideas for a whole year:
