Simple Fundraising Ideas

If you think marathon fundraising needs to be big events and a lot of work, think again!  You already have enough on your plate with training, meal prep and your regular life. You want easy fundraising ideas that work.

Check out these simple fundraising ideas you can use for your marathon fundraisers!

Hook of the Week

What's a hook?

A hook is the opening moment of a video or caption designed to stop the scroll on social and make someone want to keep watching. This is your one-second pitch for the viewer to continue watching. It can be text on screen, a visual, or both and it makes all the difference between someone watching or swiping past.

This week's hook:

Warming up to tell people I’m running [marathon name] for [charity name] this [fall/spring, etc]

For your caption: Tell the reader the caption should ways they can donate to your charity, whether it’s your link in bio, sending you a Venmo for you to donate on their behalf, or other fundraising events you have coming up.

How to film it (keep it to 7 seconds!):

  1. Open with the text hook on screen over b-roll video. B-roll is observation "fly on the wall" video. For this specific post, show yourself stretching before your run. Include a longer clip and adjust the speed to 2x.
  2. Keep the visual moving; no static shots
  3. Add the text hook to the top of the screen (like a headline) at the start of the video
  4. Layer trending audio underneath (check your Reels or TikTok audio tab for what's climbing this week) or a song that fits the clip
  5. Let the hook do the heavy lifting! You don't need to say a word on camera
  6. In the last 3-4 seconds, add text that says Details for How to Donate Below!

Fundraising Tips for Next Week

I want to make sure you have enough time to plan out ideas for these fundraising posts.

Here are a few ideas you plan for the week of July 20th:

  • National Lollipop Day (July 20): Give your fundraiser a sweet twist by asking donors to support you in exchange for a virtual “lollipop” shoutout with a specific donation.
  • Vanilla Ice Cream Day (July 23): Invite supporters to donate the cost of a scoop of vanilla ice cream (or their favorite flavor). Use your social media to share your favorite ice cream spot and ask followers to help you reach your goal.
  • Cousins Day (July 24): Celebrate your cousins and invite them to donate to your fundraiser in honor of your family connection. Share a fun throwback photo of you with your cousins.
  • Christmas in July (July 25): Christmas in July is the perfect excuse to turn your fundraiser into a "Donor Ornament Tree." Think $10 for a tinsel tier, $25 for a garland tier, and $50 for a star topper tier. Post a photo of a small tree or wreath and update it as tiers fill up; it gives a playful countdown fun!
  • Wine and Cheese Day (July 25): Host a wine tasting fundraiser! Have a wine and cheese night with friends and ask for donations in exchange for an invite. Share your favorite wine and cheese pairings on social media with a donation link. Ask for wine donations from friends or a local business to keep your expenses low.
