The end of summer is quickly approaching and I can't believe it's almost fall! This week's fundraisers include a few fall-inspired fundraising ideas, like hosting a football squares pool and September social media holidays.

Let's dig in!

Host a Football Squares Pool

There’s something so satisfying about combining football, community, and a little friendly competition, especially when it’s for a good cause. That’s where football squares come in. While most people associate this with the Big Game, you can host a squares pool for any football game.

If you're looking for a simple, low-lift way to raise funds for a charity, a Super Bowl squares fundraiser is one of the easiest (and fun!) ways to do it.

I like to pick a Chicago Bears game during the regular season (or a playoff) as an option to raise quick money. This is a split-the-pot fundraiser where you sell 100 squares on a grid. Half the money goes to your charity and half is for the prize pot. Everyone should pay you to make one donation to save money for prizes.

Hook of the Week

What's a hook?

A hook is the opening moment of a video or caption designed to stop the scroll on social and make someone want to keep watching. This is your one-second pitch for the viewer to continue watching. It can be text on screen, a visual, or both and it makes all the difference between someone watching or swiping past.

This week's hook:

This is what I love about [your charity]. Their mission is to [list their focus] and that's why I'm supporting them by running [your goal marathon]!

For your caption: Remind the reader about the cool things you're experiencing as a charity runner, what your charity is about, or the impact of where the donations go. Include how simple it is to donate to your charity, whether it’s your link in bio, sending you a Venmo for you to donate on their behalf, or other fundraising events you have coming up.

Fundraising Tips for Next Week

I want to make sure you have enough time to plan out ideas for these fundraising posts. These ideas are meant to give you organic reasons to share your fundraiser!

Here are a few ideas you plan for the week of August 31st:

  • No Rhyme or Reason Day (September 1): There’s no better excuse to ask for a donation than… no excuse at all. It’s a playful and pressure-free reason to ask for donations since the donation needs no reason. The reason is “just because.”
  • Skyscraper Day (September 3): The visual metaphor is strong with this one. The sky’s the limit! Focus on asking to raise donations like a building. You can use increments like each floor in the building for certain milestones and set a goal to reach the top of the building.
  • Cheese Pizza Day (September 5): Pizza is a universal love language and to celebrate, ask for the cost of a slice or a whole pie!

September is right around the corner! Here's a few September ideas so you can start planning your month and read below for ideas for the whole year:

Issue #66 Miles, Maps & Styles Hi Reader! It is officially September, Labor Day is in the rear view and if you are training for a fall marathon, you know exactly what that means. The weeks are getting busier, the alarms are getting earlier, and the laundry pile is out of control. My 20 miler for the Chicago Marathon is less than two weeks away. I am at that point in my training cycle where I am equal parts proud of the miles I have banked and slightly intimidated of the ones still on the...
