ChatGPT Prompts to Write a Donation Letter

Email is one of the best digital channels and it's a great way to share more about your story. Writing a well-crafted donation letter is a skill developed with practice, and with AI tools like ChatGPT or Claude, you can work on finessing your skills a little faster.

While ChatGPT can't write your story, it can turn your bullet points into a structured and personal letter in minutes.

This post includes prompts for:

  • What to know before you start writing a donation letter
  • How to write your letter for 4 different asks (initial letter, the follow up nudge, corporate matches and thank you letter)
  • Pro tips to help ensure the content sounds like you and not a generic robot

Read more about how to use ChatGPT or Claude as part of your donation process.

Hook of the Week

This week we're focused on a carousel post. A carousel post is a type of social media post that contains multiple images or videos as a single post. They're meant for the user to swipe to view a sequence under one unified theme.

What's a hook?

A hook is the opening moment of a video or caption designed to stop the scroll on social and make someone want to keep watching. This is your one-second pitch for the viewer to continue watching. It can be text on screen, a visual, or both and it makes all the difference between someone watching or swiping past.

This week's hook:

Kinda chic [add something really cool about you/your charity]

Every picture starts with Kinda chic and then you showcase something about yourself or your charity. Include pictures from your charity events, your training runs, and past races to showcase your accomplishment. This trend is all about highlighting something really cool about the topic.

Here are a few examples of this hook to get you started:

  • Kinda chic to run a marathon for a charity
  • Kinda chic to run for someone who can't
  • Kinda chic to run for something bigger than yourself
  • Kinda chic to see your name on a charity singlet
  • Kinda chic to make every long run count for something
  • Kinda chic to run to help young girls find their voice
  • Kinda chic to help feed families in the community
  • Kinda chic to run for someone fighting cancer
  • Kinda chic to run to support the community
  • Kinda chic have my miles count for more

For your caption: Tell the reader about the cool things you're experiencing as a charity runner, what your charity is about, or the impact of where the donations go. Include how simple it is to donate to your charity, whether it’s your link in bio, sending you a Venmo for you to donate on their behalf, or other fundraising events you have coming up.

Here is an example you can use for reference!

Fundraising Tips for Next Week

I want to make sure you have enough time to plan out ideas for these fundraising posts.

Here are a few ideas you plan for the week of August 17th:

  • National Thrift Shop Day (August 17): Not all fundraisers have to be based on asking others to make a financial donation. You can host a virtual gear sale or an in-person yard sale and donate the proceeds to your fundraising page. Whatever is left over can be donated to a thrift store so they can resell it.
  • Be an Angel Day (August 22): Use the play on the word angel as part of your messaging. Use phrases like be an angel donor, be an angel and donate or ask for gifts from above to make playful captions.
  • 50 days Until Chicago (August 22): If you're running the Chicago Marathon, use the 50 days to go milestone as a reason to post. Ask for $50 donations as part of the theme for the day.

Here's more ideas to plan your August-themed fundraising ideas and read below for ideas for a whole year:

Issue #66 Miles, Maps & Styles Hi Reader! It is officially September, Labor Day is in the rear view and if you are training for a fall marathon, you know exactly what that means.
